Midvalley Animal Clinic is looking for a self-motivated and organized individual for a kennel technician position. This is a great entry-level position for those wanting to get into the veterinary field with the need for a flexible schedule and the option to grow. Midvalley Animal Clinic is a large, privately owned practice providing quality care to dogs and cats. Our clinic is open from 8-6 pm Monday - Saturday—no overnight or Sunday shifts.
Key responsibilities of a kennel tech:
Facility maintenance:
- Maintaining cleanliness of common areas and the exterior of the building
- Laundry duties
- Medical instrument maintenance including cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments
- Stocking supplies
Animal care:
- Feeding animals according to their dietary needs and schedules
- Providing fresh water and changing water bowls regularly
- Walking dogs and providing exercise as needed
- Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, cages, and other animal area
- Monitoring animals for signs of illness or distress and reporting any issues to the veterinarian
- Administering medications as directed by a veterinarian
Client interaction:
- Receiving and releasing animals
- Answering client questions about their pet
- Maintaining accurate records of animal care, feeding, and client communications
Required skills and qualities:
- Animal handling: Ability to comfortably and safely handle a variety of animals, including dogs of different sizes and temperaments
- Attention to detail: Observing animals closely to identify any health concerns
- Physical stamina: Ability to be on your feet for extended periods, walking dogs and cleaning kennels
- Self-reliant: Ability to work effectively without supervision
- Communication Skills: Interacting with clients in a professional manner
- Teamwork: Collaborating with other veterinary staff and veterinarians
